Founder of Seattle Atelier, Michael Lane is a mid-career artist living and working in Seattle, Washington in the United States.
He was an early participant in the representational painting revival of the 1990s at the same time that the school of art known as Perceptual Painting was being born at The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia, PA.
A former apprentice to Nelson Shanks at his home-studio, Chelwood in Andalusia, PA. In 1996 he worked with Shanks and Gresham Reilly to establish the Master Class program at the Pennsylvania Academy.
An in-demand instructor for many years, he opened Seattle Atelier, School for Perceptual Painting on October 9, 2014.

February, 2024. The name Seattle Atelier was taken and staffed by the Gage Academy of Art in Seattle within a newly renovated building in Seattle. Lane fought them and by October, 2025 retained the business name, Seattle Atelier.
